HSB Turning Torso opens with spectacular exhibition

From 24 to 31 August, the public will have the chance to visit a fascinating exhibition telling the story of the Turning Torso building. The exhibition, staged by HSB Turning Torso, covers every stage of the project from a variety of viewpoints and includes a virtual elevator ride to the 54th floor.

HSB Turning Torso is 190 metres high.
The construction consists of nine cubes with five floors each. Adding to this the intermediate floors the total comes to 54 floors. Each floor has ca 400m² of available space. This gives 147 apartments from cube three to nine. In principle, each floor consists of a square part around the core and a triangular part which is supported by an external steel structure. The entire construction twists 90 degrees on its way up.

The architect
Santiago Calatrava, artist, sculptor and engineer, is based in Zurich, Paris, Valencia and New York. He finds inspiration in the natural movements of animals and humans. HSB Turning Torso represents a human body in a twisting motion. Amongst Calatrava's acclaimed works are bridges, railway stations, communications towers and traffic control towers.
The local partners in Sweden are Samark Arkitektur & Design AB with offices in Malmö and Stockholm. They are responsible for the interior design, floor plans and the selection of materials.
